MARSH Steve

Steve Marsh studied classical guitar in Nottingham, England under the guidance of one of the most respected teachers of the instrument, Robin Pearson. After completing his studies with Robin in 1978, he became a professional guitarist and quickly gained a reputation as a sympathetic, skilful and knowledgeable teacher setting up a guitar studio in the beautiful central area of England known as the Peak District from where he taught for over 40 years.  

He has given numerous solo guitar recitals throughout the UK including ones for the National Trust and English Heritage and various Arts Festivals plus recorded and live broadcasts for the BBC on local radio stations and in early 2002 was invited to take part in a Gala concert in Chatsworth House, Derbyshire. A few years later he took part in a charity performance at Hampton Court Palace, London in front of Tony and Cherie Blair, Sir Cliff Richard, Cilla Black and many other celebrities.  

In late 2000 Steve Marsh played the incidental guitar music on the best-selling author and Emmy award-winning playwright Deric Longden's first CD 'The Funny Thing Is...' and took part with the author on the initial ‘book-launch’ concert.  Steve has had many books of his own compositions and arrangements published by various publishing houses around the world. These works include music for guitar solo, duo, quartet, large guitar ensembles, flute and guitar, wind band and orchestra. Many of these compositions have been used by guitar teachers worldwide, and have been performed by some of the leading names in the world of classical guitar including Eleftheria Kotzia, Arne Brattland, the Eastwood/Kilvington duo (who premiered Marsh's Clumber Rain at the Bolivar Hall, London), and the Hill/Wiltchinsky duo (who gave the premiere of Marsh's Toccata for Two Guitars in 1989). The Montes/Kircher duo have also recorded Steve Marsh's Homage to Paco de Lucia. His compositions have been included in the examination lists for the Guildhall School of Music (London) and the ABRSM (London) and have also been used on television.  

In 1984 Steve Marsh was invited to join the reviewing team of the international magazine 'Classical Guitar' and has since then reviewed thousands of new publications, recordings and concerts as well as interviews and contributing articles on technique.  

Steve and his wife Nadia perform as a guitar duo and have given many concerts together. For several years they were the regular resident guitarists at the prestigious Peacock Hotel near Bakewell, Derbyshire where they performed most weeks. In 2019 they moved to Scotland to live near the sea in a small coastal village just over the Scottish border but are now planning to move to the south coast of England to live once again near the sea in Devon.
